Andrew Mjasiri (Adventurer)

$150$150of

Arrived December 2009, Andrew was about 2 months old. He was abandoned on the side of the road. I don’t think we will ever get used to people just throwing away their kids, like a piece of garbage!

In Kenya, the roads are littered with plastic bags and other garbage because there is no sanitation system or laws enforced to stop it. People just wrap their baby up in a blanket, walk along the road, look around to make sure nobody is watching, set the baby down and keep on going. Sad, but true.

He seems like a very healthy, normal boy. He wasn’t malnourished and dirty, like most kids are when they come to us. You have to wonder what happened?  We will probably never know.

Arrived February 2012, Bonnie was born on February 11. On Valentine’s Days her mother dropped her down a pit latrine and left her to die. She was rescued by someone who saw her mother go in and come out without the baby. Her mother named her Blessing and then threw her away. She had a broken arm, cuts and bruises. She is a blessing and a sweet Valentine to us. She is loving know as “L’il Me”, by her name sake Bonnie in picture below.

Arrived July 2008, Brenda was abandoned and was placed in a rescue center for street boys. After several months of trying to locate her parents, the center requested that she stay at our home. The authorities realized that they were putting her at risk by keeping her in with the boys. She became fast friends with Jessica, who is always the first to welcome any newcomer.

Arrived June 2006, for good, Bafo was approximately 6 years old when he began hanging around our home in 2005 with his sister Devon.  Bafo came to stay with us full time 2006. Their mom came and took Devon (we have tried to find her, she is no longer with the either parent, we pray she is safe, her picture is below). When Bafo tried to follow her his mom beat him and sent him away. Bafo hasn’t seen his dad, mom or sister since 2007.  Bafo misses his dad very much. He has struggled with ADD, which causes him a lot of trouble in school. We now have a private teacher and it has helped him tremendously. Bafo is a loving boy who likes to help out with chores around the house and is good with the little ones.

Arrived March 2008, Eliza was 3 or 4 years old when she came. She had been living on the streets with a mentally unstable mother her entire life. She has had some adjustments to make (learning to sleep in a bed, eating at the table, etc.). She is now very well adjusted and is doing well in school. Eliza is tender-hearted and lights up the room with her smile.
