Arrived April 2010, a beautiful girl, appropriately named Angel arrived! Angel’s story is similar to many of our kids. She was born to a teenage girl, who did not want her. I hesitate to say that she abandoned the baby, because she actually brought someone to the hospital with her, whom she intended to give the baby to. The Children’s Office explained the proper procedure for fostering and adopting, but for some reason the people disappeared and didn’t pursue it further. So Angel (named by the nurses at the hospital), lay naked and hungry, in the hospital with nobody to take care of her.
A friend of Carla’s, who volunteers once a week at the maternity ward, called me one day from the hospital. She told us about baby Angel. She said that more than once, she had brought the baby clothes and blankets, but the other mamas (or maybe nurses) would take them for their own babies. Every time she went back to the hospital, Angel was once again lying naked and crying because she was cold and hungry. She expressed concern over the fact that the baby had gotten really thin, a whole month had passed since she had been born, which is a long time for a baby to go without regular feeding, lying in the open without even a blanket and hardly ever being held. In reality, she was probably only held once a week when she was there for a few hours.
After getting this information, Carla called Jeff who was already in town. He went to the Children’s Office and convinced them to place the baby with them. She was a good eater, a good crier, a good pooper, she will be fine. All the first grade girls (Jessica, Eliza, Vero, Jenny) loved to hold her and feed her. But, they usually had to fight Rehema for the job! LOL!
In May 2010, Angel was fostered out to her new foster parents and she has now placed with them.
